About Concealed Water Leaks
Leaks around your home can waste water and increase your water bill, costing you money unnecessarily. A tap dripping once every second will waste up to 33 litres of water per day. A leaking underground water pipe could be wasting thousands of litres a day.
If you notice a sudden change in your water usage and nothing in your household has changed, this could indicate you have a concealed leak. Concealed water leaks can occur behind walls, underground or in fixtures and appliances.
Checking for leaks regularly and repairing them quickly can be a simple way to save money.
If you suspect you have a water leak, contact the leak detection specialists at Plumbmasters as soon as possible. We use non-invasive methods, which means minimal impact to your property to locate the source of your water leak.
Detecting Water Leaks
Signs You May Have A Water Leak
- An excess water usage notice from the Council
- Increased water bill but no changes in your water usage
- Wet, damp or soggy areas around your home
- You can hear a running water noise when no water is being used
How To Check If You Have A Water Leak
- Stop the use of taps, toilets, dishwashers and washing machines, etc.
- Take a water meter reading and then do not use any water for at least 30 minutes.
- After 30 minutes, take another water meter reading.
- An increased meter reading normally indicates a water leak is present.
Water Leak Prevention
Preventing further water leaks in your home could save you money!
When leaks occur in your watermain, it may be an indication that the age of the pipe or work practice used during installation is increasing the likelihood of further water leaks. To prevent further water leaks and keep your plumbing fixtures functioning at their best, our plumber may recommend the installation of a pressure reduction valve to your watermain.
